How to choose the right MainsMarker® warning tape for the job

  • Match the message to the service

Choose the printed warning and colour specified for the line below.

  • Choose the roll for the run

Match the specified width, then plan roll quantities around the trench length.

  • Check whether the route needs tracing

Mains Marker gives a visual warning when exposed. Confirm how the service will be located before excavation.

Match the message to the service

Start with Gas Main, Electric, Communications, Sewer, Fire or Recycled Water. Water, Potable Water and Drinking Water have separate listings, so check the required wording and colour before ordering.

For a shared route, consider Communications / Electric or Communications / Gas / Electric only where the project permits a combined warning. The message needs to match what is actually buried.

Choose the roll for the run

The single-service range includes 100 mm × 250 m rolls. Gas Main, Water, Sewer, Electric and Communications also have 150 mm × 500 m options; Electric adds 150 mm × 100 m.

For combined warnings, Communications / Gas / Electric is 200 mm × 500 m. Communications / Electric is also listed at 200 mm × 500 m, subject to confirmation. This is for dual trenching

A 500 m roll covers twice the nominal run of a 250 m roll, so long runs need fewer roll changes. Order by service, product code, width and length; sizes vary by message.

Check whether the route needs tracing

Non-detectable tape contains no locating conductor. Where the job needs a traceable route, specify a suitable tracer wire system alongside the tape, or consider WAVELAY® Detectable Warning Tape.

Check the locating requirement before the trench closes, particularly for plastic pipes and fibre-optic cables. Set tape position to the project and asset-owner requirements.
