How to choose the best detectable mesh for the job

  • Match the message to the main

Water or gas? Start with the service name, then check the colour and product code against the job specification.

  • Plan the trace before backfill

The wire needs a continuous path. Confirm the joins and locating arrangement while the trench is still open.

  • Size the roll to the job

Start with the standard 200 mm × 200 m roll. Check wider mesh and custom marking needs before placing the order.

Match the message to the main

For water mains, choose green/black mesh, code 880100, marked “Danger Buried Water Main Below”. For gas mains, choose yellow/black mesh, code 880050, marked “Danger Buried Gas Main Below”.

Need another service name or project wording? Ask Tapex about custom text, colours and logos, subject to minimum order quantities.

Plan the trace before backfill

DETECTAMESH’s wave-form stainless steel wire provides the traceable element; the printed mesh gives a visual warning when exposed.

Confirm compatible locating equipment, the joining method and continuity checks with Tapex before installation. Follow the asset owner’s placement requirements. Where the design calls for a physical barrier, specify separate protection above the main.

Size the roll to the job

Both standard water and gas variants are 200 mm wide, supplied in 200 m rolls at a nominal 2 kg per roll.

Bespoke rolls at 300mm wide are available subject to MOQ

For bulk orders: 96 rolls per pallet. Confirm current packing before booking freight.
