How to choose the right FairWarning® Mesh

  • Choose by warning message and colour

Match the gas warning to the asset owner’s required wording and colour. Put the product code on the schedule.

  • Choose for the locating plan

This mesh provides a visible warning during excavation. Specify the means of locating the pipe before the dig as a separate requirement.

  • Choose for the ground conditions

Check the mesh material and soil tolerance against the site conditions. A buried warning needs staying power.

Choose by warning message and colour

For a high-pressure gas main, Tapex lists code 49998 in yellow/black. For a high-pressure gas pipeline, it lists code 49999 in yellow/black.

Both come in 200 mm × 200 m rolls. Select the service wording and colour together, and confirm the final print artwork before approval. The two labels do not establish different pressure ratings or mechanical protection levels.

Choose for the locating plan

Use non-detectable mesh where the design calls for a visual warning and already provides a suitable way to locate the service. It has no integral tracer wire.

Where an integral locating wire is required, consider detectable warning mesh and confirm that its warning message and colour meet the project specification. Keep any required mechanical protection separate: warning mesh is not a strike barrier.

Choose for the ground conditions

Virgin homopolymer polypropylene provides a strong, semi-rigid, rot-resistant mesh. Reported soil tolerance is pH 2.5–11.0.

Reported tensile strength is 150 kg per 200 mm width. Confirm the test method and acceptance criteria before using this figure in a performance specification; it is not a working-load or impact rating.
