How to choose the right twine for the load

  • Choose for the baler or the bundle

Start with what you are tying and how you tie it. Match the grade to the machine or manual task.

  • Choose the strength the job needs

Compare nominal breaking strain, then confirm the grade for your baler, material and tying method.

  • Choose the length. Plan the refill.

Once the grade is right, compare metres per ball and pack size to plan replacements and repeat orders.

Choose for the baler or the bundle

Baling cardboard, paper or plastic? Check your baler’s specified tying material and grade, then compare the Tapex range. Confirm the ball fits the holder and feeds as intended. A machine specified for banding or wire needs its own compatibility check before changing to twine.

For pallet tying, securing and bunching, explore Natlash and Supalash. Where every manual tie needs the same cut length, ask about Hanks or Multi end cops in the wider range.

These waste-baling twines are non-UV-stabilised. Discuss exposed outdoor storage with Tapex before choosing.

Choose the strength the job needs

Natlash offers several grades: 4500 at 180 kg, 6000 at 260 kg, 7000 at 290 kg and 9000 at 370 kg nominal breaking strain.

For pallet tying and compatible baling work, Supalash 7 offers 185 kg and Supalash 8 offers 260 kg. For a higher-strength requirement, Toughbind offers 548 kg.

Breaking strain describes the strength of twine, not a permitted bale weight or working load. Knot performance also matters. Give Tapex your baler model  details and waste type to confirm the required product.

Choose the length. Plan the refill.

Supalash 7 gives you 850 m per ball; Supalash 8 gives you 580 m. That is 270 m more from Supalash 7 when its strength suits the job. “ have taken this comment out.

Natlash’s listed waste-baling grades span 700–1,350 m per ball, supplied in packs.  Toughbind provides 1,500 m in a single 18.8 kg ball: check  the dimensions of 405 mm height and 340 mm diameter against your setup.

Compare cost per usable metre within a suitable grade, then plan stock around consumption and delivery timing. More metres only help when the twine fits the work.
