How to choose the right Inner Duct for the job

  • Start with the cable. Check the duct.

Cable diameter sets the first limit. Conduit space, existing cables and bends decide whether the whole arrangement fits.

  • Leave a path for what comes next.

Choose cells for today’s cables and the next stage of the rollout. Spare capacity starts with the layout.

  • Plan the path. Plan how to find it.

Choose Detectable when the route needs a conductive tracing path. Choose Standard when that capability is not required.

Start with the cable. Check the duct.

Tapex’s listed 44 mm configurations take cables up to 18 mm outside diameter per cell; its 52 mm three-cell Standard option takes up to 22 mm.

The 44 mm and 52 mm labels describe fabric width, not conduit diameter. For three-cell arrangements, the local data sheets give minimum conduit inside diameters of 42 mm and 50 mm respectively.

Check the complete route before specifying. Those minima do not establish fit for two-cell products, multiple packs or installation alongside existing cables. Ask Tapex to confirm the arrangement against the cable schedule and route conditions.

Leave a path for what comes next.

Use the planned cable count to compare two- and three-cell options, then identify which paths need to stay available for later work.

Flexible cells occupy less fixed space than rigid inner ducts. In a suitable occupied conduit, that can make another cable possible without a new duct run. In a new build, it can help reduce the conduit needed for the planned cables.

Confirm spare-cell access, cable sizes and the installation arrangement together. An empty cell is useful only if the next cable can reach it.

Plan the path. Plan how to find it.

Standard provides separate fabric cable paths. Detectable adds an incorporated copper wire that can be traced with suitable locating equipment.

Tapex lists a two-cell Detectable option for cable outside diameters up to 18 mm. Plan wire continuity, connection access and compatible locating equipment as part of the design.
